SteriSpaceTM Technology Overview:

The SteriSpaceTM system is the most effective way to sterilize air and provides next-level air sterilization for a variety of applications. SteriSpaceTM eliminates biological and chemical contaminants from any size room or area by compressive heating of large volume air flows. In a series of funded programs, mostly from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), prototypes of various sizes have been designed, built and tested. Independent testing has conclusively demonstrated that SteriSpaceTM doesn't merely capture contaminants but destroys greater than 99.9999% of all airborne biological threats including: viruses, bacteria, bacterial spores and even anthrax simulants.Positive or negative pressure can be maintained for protection or isolation.

The SteriSpaceTM system can further eliminate select chemical compounds, environmental pollutants, and organic particles, including: nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs); A particle filter allows removal of fine (PM10) and ultra-fine (PM 2.5) particulate matter as well.

The technology is scalable for airflows from tens to thousands of cubic feet per minute (CFM) and is suitable for a wide range of applications. This technology does not use filters to trap the contaminants; thus, the logistics associated with HEPA filtration are not a concern. This also eliminates worker exposure to captured bio-hazard in the filter during filter disposal. HEPA filtration is the current technology in predominant use for protection against airborne biological threats. Where the SteriSpaceTMunit has been shown to kill greater than 99.9999% of the biological contaminants, HEPA filters trap the contaminants with a minimum filter efficiency of 99.97% at a particle size of 0.3 microns. There has been some question of the effectiveness of HEPA filtration against small virus particles.

Developed to improve air quality and quality of life, the SteriSpaceTM system is the most effective air sterilization technology available on the market.

B-SAFERTM

The B-SAFERTM system is designed to remove common diesel exhaust pollutants and airborne pathogens from a flowing air stream in the cabin of any mode of transportation (passenger SUVs, trucks, buses, trains, aircraft) using a novel compressive heating and catalytic oxidization process. The compressive heating of a continuous airflow destroys bacterial spores, vegetative bacteria, viruses and other allergens in rapid contact within milliseconds.

At the end of the process, the particulate matter (remaining solid carbon and inorganic particulates) are removed using the downstream particulate filter. This is unlike currently used HEPA filter technology, which doesn’t remove fumes and isn’t as effective against chemical contaminants and very fine biological contaminants. HEPA filter-based air purification units creates a hazardous situation where bypass or filter change outs can re-contaminate persons inside the cabin.

Need for SteriSpaceTM B-SAFERTM Air Sterilization in the IndianPublic Transportation Sector, Particularly Buses and Trains:

Bus and Train systems are popular modes of public transportation around the world. Numerous studies on cabin-air quality have reported serious indoor environment quality (IEQ) problems, with many pollutants being present at higher concentration levels than found in the outdoor environment.  Vehicular fuel combustion is a major source of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), as well as other combustion by-products. These pollutants have the capacity to accumulate inside the cabin during a commute.

People with breathing and heart problems, children and the elderly are particularly sensitive to PM2.5. Further, in 2017, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) listed diesel exhaust as a carcinogen after accumulating compelling evidence.

Despite the high risk of pollution inside cabins, there are a lack of technologies capable of purifying the air to minimize in-vehicle exposure to chemical contaminants from diesel and auto exhaust.Studies indicate that supplementary air filtration/ purification and air disinfection methods are needed to safeguard the health of people using public transportation system buses. This need is particularly more pressing in air-conditioned buses, commercial trucks, and passenger SUV’s which can have poorer ventilation, hence contributing to the build-up of CO2, particulate matter, as well as biological contaminants due to the infrequent, continuous recirculation of air. Air recirculation is considered to be a major factor in the airborne transmission of diseases.

Unlike commonly used air filtration systems, B-SAFER™:

·         Doesn’t merely capture/ filter some viruses, bacterial spores and vegetative bacteria, it destroys more than 99.9999% of them (sterilization).

·         Removes fumes and organic compounds including: Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Polyacrylic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), Fine (PM10) and Ultra fine (PM2.5) Particulate Matter.

·         No worker exposure to biohazards in the filter

·         Scalable to treat cabins in SUVs, to larger trains and aircraft.

To combat the dangerous health risks from vehicle exhaust and environmental airborne pollutants, the spread of existing infectious airborne diseases as well as emerging and unknown diseases, it is time to equip trucks, buses, train, aircraft, and passenger vehicles with innovative modern technologies. B-SAFER™, with its fully scalable and customizable design, provides an innovative solution to minimize exposure to pollution, and helps solve indoor air quality challenges.

I-SAFERTM

I-SAFERTM was designed specifically for the destruction of infectious airborne pathogens in healthcare settings, such as Hospitals and Ambulances.

Substantial improvements in transportation in the recent past has made geographical locations closer than ever, enabling the spread of deadly infections at a faster rate.  A hospital-acquired infection (HAI), also known as a nosocomial infection, is an infection acquired in a hospital or other healthcare facility. HAI’s have been the matter of discussion among doctors, scientists, high levels of governments, and the media, receiving significant global attention in the past few years, when deplorable levels of morbidity and mortality became associated with poor hygiene and insufficient cleaning. Infectious patients who are not isolated from the population can disperse these infectious airborne infectious microorganisms in a wide geographical area through the air, which are inhaled by susceptible individuals who have had no direct contact with the primary source. This airborne spread becomes even more prevalent in healthcare settings because of overburdened hospitals and the presence of immunosuppressed patients.

Tuberculosis (TB) transmission in health care settings represents a major public health problem in India. The WHO listed TB as the seventh most infectious disease, accounting for 3% of total deaths globally. India faces the highest TB burden of any country, accounting for one-fourth of the global incidence, with 2.2 million incident TB cases emerging annually. In 2010, National Airborne Infection Control (AIC) guidelines were adopted in India. These guidelines outline specific policies for TB prevention and control in health care settings.

Major cities in India are always under the risk of getting highly contagious diseases from all over the world. Health care workers in the hospital emergency department are the first ones to get exposed in these situations. To combat the spread of existing infectious airborne diseases as well as emerging and unknown diseases, it is time to equip the healthcare system with modern technologies. Healthcare facilities have a wide range of critical areas wherein the quality of the internal air is paramount. If the hospital is located in a dangerously polluted area, the fresh air drawn from outside will also be highly contaminated and can exacerbate different health conditions of the patients.

SteriSpaceTM is an innovative air sterilization technology which can be deployed in various healthcare situations to provide next-level air protection:

Positive Pressure can be maintained within a room to protect patients in surgery, immune-compromised patients, or those with respiratory diseases. Negative Pressure can be maintained to prevent the outside environment from contamination from an infected patient inside the room. I-SAFER™, with its fully scalable and customizable design, provides an innovative solution to minimize contamination and solve the air quality challenges faced by healthcare facilities.

Potential Applications of I-SAFERTM:

1.    Isolation or quarantine of patients with infectious and potentially deadly diseases (I.e. MDR-TB and XDR-TB, SARS, Ebola, etc.).

2.    General hospital wards where multiple sick patients with contagious diseases such as Chickenpox, Influenza, Measles, and Tuberculosis are housed.

3.    Protection of immune compromised patients from potential airborne infections and most types of extreme and common everyday pollutants which can be potentially deadly in the immune compromised state.

4.    Quarantine of patients Suspected of diseases such as SARS, MERS, influenza etc. which can cause pandemic situations.

5.    Providing protection to Intensive Care Units (ICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) from most biological and chemical contaminants.

6.    Reduce infection possibilities in outpatient emergency care areas of hospitals where all kind of sick patients with different symptoms but undiagnosed.

7.    Outdoor emergency shelter with medical or relief applications, such as during natural calamities and disease outbreaks.

9.    At India’s port of entry to quarantine suspected carriers of deadly or contagious diseases

E-SAFERTM:for the removal of diesel exhaust by-products in industry, or in industrial processes.

Industrial and manufacturing processes can create a high level of gaseous and airborne particulate waste. As a result, air quality is a frequent concern of management, unions, workers, and ownership. Many manufacturing processes involve the use of gasses and/or solvents that release harmful fumes into the air, placing workers at risk for respiratory problems. Moreover, removal of critical VOCs and particulates improves air quality so that fewer chemicals make their way up the food chain to humans through crops and livestock.

The E-SAFERTM system by SteriSpaceTM is a product intended for the removal of diesel exhaust by-products in industry, or in industrial processes where certain dangerous chemical vapors are emitted into the air (for cleaner industrial emissions, both, inside industrial settings, as well as for reducing the amount and toxicity of the vapors and chemicals released to the outside). The SteriSpaceTM system is designed to remove common diesel exhaust pollutants, airborne pathogens and common industrial chemicals such as acetone, toluene, ammonia, etc. from a flowing air stream using a novel compressive heating and catalytic oxidization process. The compressive heating of a continuous airflow destroys bacterial spores, vegetative bacteria, viruses and other allergens in rapid contact within milliseconds. At the end of the process, the particulate matter (remaining solid carbon and inorganic particulates) are removed using the downstream particulate filter.

The SteriSpaceTM E-SAFERTM air sterilization system mitigates the risk of breathing contaminated air by reducing the pollution levels to low values that are acceptable for safe and healthy respiration.
